Welcome!

Melara Dark is an artist and aspiring writer of fiction, with an eye toward diversity, inclusion, and the LGBT+ community. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her wife, who is both her rock, and her eternal reminder that heroes truly can come from anywhere. They can be anyone. Our strength is in our resolve to be true to ourselves, and to the world around us. To exist without apology, to thrive without shame, and to love without condition. Love can overcome even the deepest of horrors or the most trying of circumstances, and, like hope and like heroes, it can come from the most unexpected places.

The Tree Y’Edenel Part 2

Book Two of the Tree Duology

Book Three of the Immortal Elements Saga

Without Life, there is Chaos…

Aevlin de Valint was quite taken aback when two strange women appeared in the garden, claiming to be from elsewhere. Who called them to his world and why is a mystery, one which only deepens when it is discovered that they have gifts beyond the experience of the Circle of Mages…and that they are not the only ones with such gifts to have been called to Kaloran from other worlds touching the Tree.

However one thing is becoming increasingly clear: an ancient threat is rising once more, determined to destroy not only Kaloran but all the worlds bound to her.

The very strangers shaken to Kaloran from Its branches may be the only ones who can save the Tree Y’Edenel.

The Human Heart

Book One of the Rakir Trilogy

The year is 2212, and war has been raging between the humans of the United Earth Coalition and the Rakir Empire for a generation…and Earth is losing. The bloodthirsty rakir have been pushing them back world by world, destroying colony after colony, and to make matters worse they are being helped by a shadow organization of human traitors known as the Capricorn Pact. Hiding among all facets of the military and the government, the Pact have sown terror throughout Coalition space.

Parry Mazurek is part of the new graduating class of fighter pilots from one of Earth’s top flight academies, ready and eager to join the fight to protect her species and her home. She hopes to be assigned to First Fleet, to join the legendary Alpha Wing and fight alongside the same legends she grew up admiring. On the night before deployment, she meets an attractive fellow graduate who shares her hopes and anticipations on the assignment to come, and what small part they might play in the salvation of their species.

Although the connection between Parry and Rayna Caruso is immediate, her new friend is a bit…odd. As if she’s dancing to a separate tune only she can hear.

Or hiding something.

Then Parry is captured by the enemy and discovers that the UEC has its own dark secrets, and the rakir their own traitors.

(This is the first book in a trilogy. First draft is complete, second draft already begun. Cover is in process.)

The Tree Y’Edenel Part 1
Book One of the Tree Duology

Book Two of the Immortal Elements Saga

Without Life, there is Nothing…

Eva comes from a world where those ‘without’ are strictly controlled by those ‘with’. As part of this ‘untouchable caste’, she is forbidden from reading or writing. Reproduction is strictly controlled, with only one child allowed to be born to each woman, and even then only with government permission. The consequence of breaking these laws is death.

Stella, of the ‘middle’ caste, has a rebellious streak. Befriending Eva at a young age, she taught her how to read and write. Hiding in secret the two girls grew up together writing the most astonishing stories. Stories they had to keep secret, lest Eva’s life and the life of her mother and hidden sister become forfeit.

Only Eva’s secret has been discovered, and when Stella tries to intervene in her friend’s very public execution both women find themselves tumbling into a strange world quite apart from their own. A world called Kaloran.

(First draft is nearly complete, and I am working on the synopsis. Cover is in process.)

So My Grandma Summoned a Demon

Marta Mendoza has no idea what she wants, or what will make her happy. Figuring that out isn’t her job, after all.

That honor belongs to Cody, the demon who has been at her side for as long as she can remember. Cody has one job that he takes very seriously; figure out Marta’s destiny and make her happy. And come Hell or High Brimstone, he’s going to do it!

You see he made a promise to his friend, Doreen Collins, and despite his demonic nature he is going to keep it.

Only Marta also has a guardian angel who is none too pleased with a demon hanging around one of his charges. And the Committee for the Monitoring of all Infernal Activities on Earth will snap Cody right back to Hell in a heartbeat if they find out he’s trying to help a mortal instead of torment them.

And then there’s that bitch Tina in Accounting…

Ferry Tail

Eugenia Sackhat has only one desire: to become a truly wicked witch and turn green. Her pink face has made her the laughingstock of the United Coven of Wicked Witches. Her only real gift is that she’s able to fly without a broomstick, which she uses in the wickedest way possible: to get things off that pesky top shelf.

Her Hostage, Lysette, is bound and determined to make Eugenia’s wish come true and give them both their happily ever after, so when the Coven sends out the word they’re looking for a witch that can fly without a broom for a secret mission, Lysette sees her chance. If Eugenia can fulfill this mission for the Coven she’ll have performed a truly wicked deed and finally turn green.

Only the mission turns out to be rescuing a princess trapped in a tower-a heroic deed instead of a wicked one. Now Lysette and Eugenia are in a bind: how do they rescue the princess without becoming heroes?

Hope comes in the form of Bill, a middle prince who seems willing to help them out. With so many older and younger siblings this may be his only chance to make a name for himself.

But there’s a werewolf in the way, and if Lysette isn’t mistaken, Eugenia and Bill are making goo-goo eyes at each other. And why does the wickedest witch of them all, Helga Blackhearth, even want the princess rescued in the first place?

(First draft is still in progress. Cover is in process.)

Scarlett

Book One of the Silites Series

Scarlett has a problem. She can hear people screaming inside her head.

It only happens just before tragedy strikes. A murder, a flood, an earthquake, an act of terrorism; and it’s driving her insane. The voices belong to the people who die in those tragedies, or will die, if Scarlett doesn’t intervene.

If she saves them, the screaming stops. If she doesn’t…
